International Buy a Priest a Beer Day

Beer Blessing

Just for fun, since yesterday was (unbeknownst to me) International Buy a Priest a Beer Day, here’s a little blessing for beer in belated honor of this holiday, borrowed with minor changes from the Rituale Romanum. Someone should really start a Buy a Deacon Some Wine Day… Just sayin’. 😉

℣. Our help is in the name of the Lord.
℟. Who sustaineth heaven and earth.
℣. Our love is in the countenance of the Lady.
℟. Who filleth the earth with Her sweetness.
℣. The Lord be with you.
℟. And with thy spirit.

Let us pray. Bless +, O Lord, this creature, beer, which by Thy kindness and power hath been brought forth from the sweetness of the grain, and let it be a salutary remedy for mankind. Grant that whosoever shall drink it with thanksgiving to Thy holy Name may obtain health of body and a sure safeguard for the soul. Through Christ our indwelling Lord. ℟. Amen.

The beer is then sprinkled with holy water.
